Panasonic is adding to its range of lower-cost shoulder-mount camcorders, with the AG-AC8, an AVCCAM, 1080p camcorder based around a 1/4.5-inch sensor.
The camcorder comes with a built-in 21x zoom, and dual SD card slots, supporting simultaneous recording. The new camcorder supports both 28 and 24 mbps AVCHD recording formats, as well as 50fps progressive and interlaced. The AG-C8 is is also fitted with a powered USB bus, to allow quick offloading of footage to a hard drive.
The camera has an optical image stabiliser to reduce shake; an intelligent auto (Ai) mode increases the zoom range to 50 times. A tilt correction feature allows the camera to keep the image level, even when it is used handheld.
Panasonic says the new camcorder is aimed at professional and semi-pro users, especially in areas such as social videography, business seminars and education.
It will go on sale in Europe in October, for €1280 (around £1100), including VAT.
