Avid has confirmed that the latest version of its Media Composer video editing software will be available from June.

Media Composer 7 offers improved audio editing and more flexible media management, as well as better support for 2K, 4K and 5K media. The company is also extending its Interplay Sphere technology for remote collaboration , to Mac users.

For media management, Avid has extended the features of its Avid Media Access tools to non-proprietary media, and added dynamic media folders for background media management.

A new tool, FrameFlex, and support for look-up tables (LUT) allows editors to work on high resolution media, up to 5K, with colour space conversion in real time. This comes after Apple’s upgrade to Final Cut Pro, which also added support for higher end media, such as Red or Arri Alexa files.

Colour correction is also improved through an option of using colouring tools from Avid’s Symphony software directly within Media Composer 7.

On the audio side, Avid has added a master audio fader, and clip gain.

Avid has also cut the price of Media Composer, to $999, or £719 in the UK. Anyone buying Media Composer 6.5 now will receive a free upgrade to version 7 in June. The Interplay edition is £1099.
